Every Child Matters

What is Child Poverty?
Child poverty means growing up in a household with low income, children face a greater risk at having poor health, being exposed to crime and failing to reach their full potential.

In short, Child Poverty can forever change a child's life, leaving them no choice but to lead a life that limits their opportunities for their future.
Poverty around world:
UK-On Wednesday Nov. 7th 2007, citizens in the UK marched for the end of poverty. There are about 3.8 million children living in poverty in the U.K. (March was organized by SAVE THE CHILDREN AND END CHILD POVERTY SUPPORT GROUPS)
America-In America, there are 12 million children in poverty and this number is climbing. The federal government has set the poverty level at $19,350 for a family of four!
In Mississippi and Louisiana, Katrina's devastation shed light on Mississippi's children some of the poorest in the nation. An estimated 372,000 were displaced from their local schools, 489 schools were initially closed, and 226 schools were reported damaged or beyond repair.
In Louisiana child poverty rates put a higher risk for harm.
facts from SAVE THE CHILDREN:
-families receiving an income at or below this level are considered poor ($19,350)
-families receiving less than 2x the federal poverty level, or 38,700, cannot meet their basic needs and are considered low-income.
-families taking in less than $9,675- half the amount of the federal poverty level- live in extreme poverty!
It's crucial!-
Individuals all over America who are fortunate enough to have parents, an actual home and enough funding for education often take it for granted. Meanwhile there are children all over the world-even here in America, who are suffering and fighting for their life to obtain half of what these other children already have and take for granted. However there IS always room for help!
